Just do it

Waiting for things to be perfect, you miss many opportunities.  We often find ourselves tweeking our plans before we put them in place.

That's got to stop.

Just do it.  Start now.  Worry about adjustments as you go along.  Be passionate, not plan heavy.  Tell your story.  Ask your questions.  Take Action!

You'll learn as you go, I promise.  You'll make mistakes - and get stronger because of them.

What's holding you back?  What are you going to do about it?

Thank you Sid Sickles

Sid Sickles taught me to parallel park.

He was the football coach and driver's education teacher.  High school back in the 70's.

I don't remember a lot about the driving lessons.  I know I passed the class, got my license and am probably the best parallel parker in the world (outside of Ackley and Geneva Iowa).

It's all about patience, technique and trusting the process.  We did it over and over and over, until we got it right.

Today - I can parallel park anything.  I'm never scared, I take my time and my technique is flawless.   I park my car (or any car) in one smooth movement.  No back and forth, try again, 2 feet from the curb.

I'm applying that method to my business.  Determine the process, learn the technique, be patient and practice it over and over.

What did you learn a long time ago that you can still do today?

Good People Day

Gary Vaynerchuk started Good People Day last year.  It's designed to recognize the good people you've encountered in the past year.

What a great idea!  I am blessed - I'm surrounded by good people.  I'm going to give you categories.  I know I'll miss some people - that is not intentional!

Melaleuca Business Good People
Erin Criss - she got me started and she sticks to me like white on rice.  It's her constant motivation, positive criticism and strong believe in me that allows me to be the best business person I can be. She's a dear friend too.
Marybeth Green - she in such a powerful role model! She is also a friend that works with me, even though my business does not financially affect hers.

Social Media Good People
Chris Brogan - gave me my first interview on this blog.  Superstar that he is, graciously agreed and gave an interview.  He led me in the right direction.
Jenn Fowler, Geek Mommy, Amber Cadabra, Northern Chick, LKR - women I'd follow to the ends of the earth  . (those are their twitter ID's btw)
Shawna Coronado- reached out to me and helped lead me in good directions, helluva gardener.
Becky McCray - gave me hope for my community, answers all questions, inspires me to act.
Danny Brown - selfless devotion to a cause - we've adopted him into our family.
Keith Burtis - ah I knew him when he was just a wood turner!  lol.  Keith picks up the phone and calls.  He gives great advice.  He's a friend.

Friends
Keri Holmes - she showed me how to develop passion in my business.  We think alike.
Denise Passehl - she is older than me!  by six months.  I have literally known her all my life.  It's been fun watching her grow and growing with her.

Who are the good people in your life?

Think BIG

I met with one of my sponsors to SOBCon09 yesterday -Judy from Cornerstone Cottage.

She's got a lot going on with her business.  She's also a creative, inspiring, intelligent woman.  She gets it.  We talked about creating a mindmap for the things she wants to do.  I think her lightbulb moment was realizing that she is the brand - not the various entities she owns.

We also talked about thinking bigger.  Write down EVERYTHING  you dream about, foresee, want.  You can always go back and tweak - but it's important to get the ideas out of your head and on paper.

I thought I had it all together with what I wanted to do.  I realized I don't.  I'll be mindmapping this weekend too!

What are your big ideas?

Domino Theory

My favorite independent book store closed last month.  It creates such a dilemma!  I really liked having someone who knew my tastes, kept me informed of books I might like to read and did special orders.  She also became a friend.  Now she is working out of town during the week and home most weekends.

So not only have I lost my local bookstore, my friend is not available to do things during the week.  She also doesn't get to shop in our county, attend local events, be present for Questers, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce and Speciality Group meetings.

It's more than just her family that is affected.  We all are.

Do me a favor.  Find a local independent book store to support.  They need you ---- and you need them.

Quick Book Review:

I don't care what religion you belong to.  This is a great book to read to be a better leader.  Read it.

Told you it was a quick review.
